All three versions will include motion-control capabilities - the PS3 version's Move compatibility was known (and motion controls for the Wii are obvious, though they will be " MotionPlus" controls), but this will be the first true tennis "sim" to make use of Kinect, since March's Top Spin 4 will not be Kinect compatible. Previously announced only at a Sony conference, the new Sega note reveals that the tennis sequel is bouncing to Xbox 360 and Wii as well, all due in spring 2011. Virtua Tennis 4 will hit North America on May 10th, while European players will be able to get their hands on it in just a couple of weeks, on April 29th.Sega has lobbed out its official announcement for Virtua Tennis 4.

A big list of pros are packed in, but key tournaments are unlicensed. The game will also offer plenty of online play modes to keep players busy, which has become the standard for sports games. Of course, Virtua Tennis 4 will also include a player creator, and from what we’ve seen, the interface appears to be user-friendly, but we’ll have to wait and see on that. Even though they've only shown us Nadal and Federer for the most part, we can only hope that everyone else looks as good as they do. This addition takes away the monotony of simply playing game after game and leveling your character, which can be tedious after a while.Ĭonsidering the early screenshots and trailer of Virtua Tennis 4, the player models look pretty good. Players will be able to sign autographs, travel, and appear at charity events. The career mode in Virtua Tennis 4 will also offer something still missing from most sports game’s career modes: more to do than just play the sport in question. Virtua Tennis 4 has also added a new career mode, which promises to provide a unique gaming experience each and every time the player starts a new career. The Williams sisters will grace the game as well, along with Andy Murray and others. For starters, the game has the biggest roster of tennis greats to date, including current champions Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. One thing I love about sports games are options, and SEGA boasts that this game has them. Now for the good news: players will be able to play Virtua Tennis 4 without the motion-controlled peripherals, at least in the case of the HD versions of the game. Will Virtua Tennis continue to dominate the court?. As far as Wii, even with Wii MotionPlus support, developers have notoriously been unable to provide true 1:1 controls. When you think about it, the sensation when playing the game may become more like hand ball than tennis. Kinect makes you the controller, which means you don’t get to hold a racket like accessory ala Wii / PS Move. We are especially concerned in the case of the Xbox 360 and Wii versions.

It would seem like tennis would be the perfect game to utilize what motion controls have to offer, but problems may arise if hit detection, swing force, and angle of aproach aren't accurately translated to gameplay. The Wii version is, of course, fully committed to motion controls as well.

The latest installment in the VT series, Virtua Tennis 4, will utilize the new Kinect and PlayStation Move controls for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, respectively.
